Abstract

The paper presents the results of toxicity and virucidal effect study of the new disinfectant drug ‘Iodosan’, the main active ingredient of which is iodine. The study was conducted in accordance with national and international guidelines for the characterization of the virucidal properties of new disinfectants. The study of the toxicity of the disinfectant drug ‘Iodosan’ was carried out under conditions of protein loading in BHK-21/C13 cell culture model. Virulicidal activity study of the disinfectant ‘Iodosan’ was carried out under the conditions of protein loading on models of enveloped rabies virus (CVS-11 strain). The toxicity of the disinfectant drug ‘Iodosan’ was determined for 0.1%; 0.2%; 0.3%; 0.5%; 1.0% and 2.0% concentrations in 30 and 60 min exposures. The virucidal effect of the disinfectant ‘Iodosan’ was determined for 0.1%; 0.2%; 0.3%; 0.5% and 1.0% concentrations relative to working dilutions of viral suspensions of the rabies virus – 5.5 TCID50/ml. The results of the study demonstrated that the disinfectant ‘Iodosan’ is non-toxic for cultures of transplantable cells in concentrations of 0.1%; 0.2%; 0.3%; 0.5% and 1.0%. The drug is 100% virulicidal against enveloped rabies virus (CVS-11 strain) in concentrations of 0.2%;
0.3%; 0.5% and 1.0%, respectively, at exposures of 30 and 60 min for the protein load, which indicates the high virucidal activity of the disinfectant ‘Iodosan’.
